What an experience Guys and Dolls has been! I don't know that we had a rehearsal with every single cast member present due to all of the illnesses going around, but when it counted, you were all there for each other to do whatever needed to be done. That's what it means to be part of a cast, and I could not be prouder of you for that.
Supporting each other already made me proud of you, but your performances took things to another level. Your confidence and comfort (without losing focus) improved with each performance, so you allowed yourselves to be able to really delve into your characters. It has been a privilege to watch so many of you grow throughout this experience.
One of my least favorite things to hear is "I'm just in the ensemble." There is no such thing as "just in the ensemble." The ensemble is the LIFE of the show. It was so wonderful to see you figure out moments to give your characters a real personality, so we were transported to the NYC sewers, nightclubs, and more. You create the world that the audience gets lost in, and those big numbers are the ones that everyone leaves humming.
Ms. Fontana, the new chairperson of Fine Arts in the district, brought her little daughter to the show. After, she was in awe to see all of you in person because, to her, you were your characters. That was one of those faces that I mentioned performing to before you went on for your first performance. You dazzled her and many other little faces.
I read your sweet comments on the poster that you made for each of us. Please know that we feel the same fondness for all of you. Thanks to all of you for putting so much heart into your performances. As Miss Adelaide so eloquently expresses, "I love you a bushel and a peck!"
